Simple Portraits stand the Test of Time | Round Rock and Austin Photographer

What do you think of when I say the word ‘Portrait’? Where does your mind take you?

Do you think of your Grandparent’s house with painted and photographed portraits of people on the walls?
Do you think of your Parent’s house with your school photos?
Do you remember those older Olen Mills portraits from decades ago?

Whatever you think of when the word portrait comes up, the fact is portraits will always be around, and I’m going to tell you why.

Portraits are classic. They’re timeless. Not matter how much photography evolves, a classic portrait will stand the test of time. There’s something beautifully simple about a classic portrait.

Now I’m not talking about your old school photos where you used to be able to choose the background. Not the fake farm and field in the background. And definitely not the laser beam look of the late 80s and early 90s. Do you remember those?! I’m sure you do, and you probably have one sitting around somewhere buried in a photo album or box.

When I talk about classic portrait, I’m talking about a simple gray, black, white or solid color background. It can have a single person or a few people in it.

Simple, classic, and timeless.

That’s what I think of when I talk about portraits. Especially portrait photography.

Child portraits, Adult portraits, and even family portraits stand the test of time which is one of the many reasons why I love them. They don’t need to be trendy. The simplicity of it speaks for itself.

Don’t forgo a classically, beautiful portrait because it’s not what’s ‘on trend’. Embrace it because it will still be beautiful 25 years from now.
