5 Tips on what to Wear to your Family Photo Session | Round Rock and Austin Photographer
With photography being in high demand right now, I need to take a break from editing!
So… I’m writing this blog in hopes of helping my clients and other fellow families out there by giving you my top tips for what to wear to your family photo session.
Start with a Neutral color
First place to start is by picking a neutral color… any neutral color! :) White, black, khaki, brown, grey, or cream. Any of these work really well in front of the camera!
Next pick 3-5 Complimentary colors
What the heck is a complimentary color?! Well, it’s 3-5 colors that work very well together. I could go into color theory, but that would just bore everyone reading this. So I’m going to list a few complimentary colors that work well together for you!
mustard, burgundy and green
red, blue, and yellow
teal, salmon, and yellow
purple, yellow, and sage
sage, dark green, brown, and tan
orange, blue, grey, and white/cream
dark blue, light green, yellow, and grey
light pink, dark pink, orange, and yellow
Keep Patterns Simple
You don’t want to overwhelm your photos with a lot of patterns. Plaids, stripes, and dots are great to use on one or two people, but generally not the whole family. Put a couple people in patterns and a couple people is solids. Keep in mind small patterns are a lot less noticeable than large patterns.
Don’t wear clothes with brand logos
It really detracts from a photo when a huge Brand Name is splashed all over someone’s shirt or pants. It is the first thing that catches someone’s eye, and once seen, it’s hard to not see anymore.
Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize,
Accessories are so fun in photos! Hats, scarves, belts, chunky jewelry, fun shoes… just go for it! I love it when my client’s show up with cool accessories that I can tell envelop their personalities! Does Dad always wear a baseball hat? Have him bring it! Do the kids like those fun cat ear/unicorn headbands? Wear them! This not only shows off your personalities, but it also makes your family photos more personal.
