5 Tips for a Successful Family Photo Mini-Session | Round Rock and Austin Family Photographer

It’s that time of year again!

Photographers refer to October as our version of an accountant’s April… busy, busy busy!

Mini-sessions are very popular this time of year for family photo shoots. And it’s completely understandable! Families want to get up-to-date pictures taken for various holiday cards. Makes sense!

I’ve put together a short list of tips for families to have a successful mini-session.

  1. Arrive on early.
Most photographers have their mini-sessions scheduled back-to-back. If one family arrives late, it can completely throw us off schedule OR that family might completely miss out of their mini-session all together. Don’t miss out! Arrive at least 5 minutes early. This will ensure your family starts their photo shoot on time and without delay.

  2. Come prepared.
If you have questions about your photo shoot, make sure to ask your photographer before the day of your photo session. I’m happy to offer wardrobe advice, color coordination, or answer any other questions you may have. :) But if you wait until the day of to ask questions, there’s a good chance you won’t get a response in a timely manner (or sometimes at all) because we’re working with other families. Ask any questions you may have before the day of your mini-session.

  3. Don’t bring props unless you’ve talked to your photographer before hand.
Mini-sessions are short photo shoots. There’s not a lot of time for props are clients may bring. As photographers, we try to accommodate our clients as much as possible. However, sometimes we can’t. Want to bring a prop to your mini-session? Please ask first to ensure your photographer will have enough time to accommodate it.

  4. Understand your photo session time is limited.
There’s a reason photographers call these mini-sessions. They are short. If you don’t know if the 10-15 minutes will work for your family on a mini-session, talk to your photographer about scheduling a regular photo session at a different time. We’re happy to accommodate you and your family!

  5. Please be patient for the delivery of your photo gallery.
Understand it takes time to edit and deliver your photo gallery. Although your family photo shoot was only 10-15 minutes, it takes photographers a lot longer to edit your family photos and turn them into captured memories for you. We want you to be happy with your photos which is why we take extra time to edit. And we have a lot of families’ photos to edit as well! It’s our crazy season! :) Please be patient and nice to your photographer.
