Lifestyle photography has become a buzz word among photographers and in the photography industry, but a lot of people are not sure exactly what it means.

The formal definition is…

Lifestyle photography is a non-posed, posed style approach to photography.

Have I thoroughly confused you yet? Here’s a better, non-formal definition.

Lifestyle photography is where your whole photo session is not formally posed, every one smile and look a the camera.

As your photographer, I’ll put you in poses and give your family prompts. I’ll fully direct your photo session; however, not all your photos will be with everyone smiling and looking at the camera.

I’ll pose you to create authentic, natural connections between you and your family memories.

That doesn’t mean you won’t have a family photo with everyone smiling at the camera. You will! I promise! But you will also have beautiful small moments of connection captured in camera. You’ll have the small kisses from your children. You will see the hugs, Eskimo kisses, whispers between Mom, Dad, and children. You’ll see all those beautiful, timeless moments within your family.

That’s lifestyle photography.

In your photo session, I do photograph portraits as well!

I believe all families need a good mixture of lifestyle and portrait photography in their session. I have both of lifestyle and portrait photos on my walls! I love the mixture of the small moments of natural connection and the beautiful simplicity of portraits.
